  1.  vibration- something that moves back and forth quickly
  2. Pitch-highness and lowness of a sound
  3. Frequency-number of wave cycles per second
  4. Hertz-unit for measuring vibrations and sound waves
  5. Decibels- unit to measure volume of sounds
  6. Echo-sound repeats because sound waves bounce, reflect back
  7. Sonar-instrument used to measure the depth of water

 

Musical Instrument Project (SOUND)

DUE: November 18

50 points

Students will choose a type of musical instrument from the following types

  • Stringed instrument
  • Wind instrument
  • Percussion instrument

Students will construct a 3-D musical instrument with materials at home (40 points) Instrument will need to make a sound.

Examples: paper plates, cups, straws, string, Legos, popsicles sticks, pencils, sticks, tape, paper, play doh, paper, water bottles, lids, paper clips etc….

Finished project needs to be NO LARGER than 1ft wide x1ft height x 1ft length. (Shoe box size) Students must be able to carry their project to and from home.

Student can find ideas and examples on-line

Student must have name, class, and type of musical instrument on their project

Students will share their project with the class (10 points)

Share the following 5 items (2 points each) during presentation

  1. Type of instrument
  2. Which type of instrument: stringed, wind, percussion
  3. Why did you choose this instrument?
  4. Who helped you create instrument?
  5. Some items or materials used to create instrument.
